The Center for Relativistic Laser Science (CRLS), a research center at the Institute of Basis Science (IBS) in Korea, is seeking experienced applicants for group leaders and research fellows. IBS is a new research organization established to boost basic science in Korea {See the recent Phys. Today news article: 65(10), 26 (2012); http://www.physicstoday.org/resource/1/phtoad/v65/i10/p26_s1}. Research focuses of CRLS are fundamentals and applications of relativistic laser science using the 30 fs, PW Ti:sapphire lasers {Opt. Lett. 32, 3507 (2010) and Opt. Express 20, 10807 (2012)}. Group leaders, together with the CRLS director (Prof. Chang Hee Nam), will be in charge of research carried out in the five Groups of Super-intense Laser, Relativistic Laser-matter Interactions: Experiments (I) & (II), Relativistic Laser-matter Interactions: Theory, and Attosecond Science, and appointed also as a faculty member in the Department of Physics and Photon Science at Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST). Applicants for research fellows will be involved in a wide range of research activities at CRLS. The salary will be very competitive.
Responsibilities and Qualifications: Applicants are expected to organize and perform experimental/theoretical investigations on super-intense lasers, relativistic laser-matter interactions and attosecond science. Group leaders should have a strong leadership in planning and performing research in those fields and should be able to develop internal and external collaborations. Group leaders can give one lecture per semester to undergraduate or graduate students at GIST.
Applicants must have Ph.D. or equivalent experience in the Physical Sciences or Engineering. Applicants are expected to have outstanding scientific publishing record and proven ability to work on the research field of super-intense laser, relativistic laser-matter interactions, or attosecond science. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. Group leaders are highly expected to have ability to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team of physicists, engineers, technical support staffs and collaborating scientists. Recognition as a resource of high impact contributor as evidenced by conference presentations, publications in refereed journals, invited lectures, and awards is needed for group leader applicants.
To apply, please send curriculum vitae (CV) with three recommendation letters by email. The recommendation letters should be arranged so as to be mailed directly. For applicants in group leader position, please include a research plan on relevant research topics. Review of applications for group leader position will be started from April 10, 2013. Applications for research fellow position will be accepted until the positions are filled. Any inquiry on the job opening can be made to Ms. Minji Kim.
